Na pierwszych, płaskich odcinkach Tour de France, prym wiodą sprinterzy. Wtorkowy etap padł łupem Fernando Gavirii, który w pięknym stylu wygrał sprinterski pojedynek z Peterem Saganem i André Greipelem.
Niestety, etap obfitował też w kraksy. Tiesj Bennot z powodu kontuzji musiał wycofać się z wyścigu. Ucierpiał też Tomasz Marczyński, ale jedzie dalej. Z dalszego udziału w Tour z powodów zdrowotnych zrezygnował Michael Matthews.
